JOB REQUIREMENTS: Advanced Battery Engineering at General Motors is a rapidly developing area of automotive technology. We're creating cutting edge battery systems that provide industry leadin g energy, power, and fast charge capability for future Electric Vehicles. Our team is critical to achieving GM's vision of Zero Emissions, Zero Crashes, and Zero Congestion. In this role you'll be General Motors' thermal expert for the Advanced Battery Engineering team. We're seeking an engineer with a deep understanding of heat transfer and thermal system fundamentals, and who has experience with component design for highly-integrated systems. This person will engage with counterparts for battery cell, electrical, module, and structures, as well as interface to systems engineers for battery pack, vehicle thermal, and safety teams. Responsibilities: * Be committed to safety in everything our team does. * Promote an inclusive team environment that values the backgrounds, opinions, and ideas that may be different from your own. * Be the technical lead for a team of advanced battery thermal engineers developing new battery pack designs to achieve required cooling perfo rm ance and to robustly mitigate battery thermal runaway. * Engage with and support battery systems, thermal systems, and safety systems engineers to define battery thermal requirements for new programs based on customer needs and wants. * For each new program, identify the scope of battery thermal designs to be assessed and developed through the Balanced Architecture (BA) phase. * Engage with cell component and battery module engineers to ensure alignment on requirements that have been rolled down from the systems teams. * Support advanced battery electrical and structural engineers with thermal assessment of these components. * Partner with the VDDV analysis organization to utilize virtual tools which assess the performance of battery thermal designs against program requirements. * Support vehicle and performance teams with status reports for intended battery thermal design, and to discuss technical trade-offs vs alternate design options. * At the BA Exit gat e, deliver a battery thermal design solution with supporting analyses to confirm thermal performance status vs requirements. * After BA Exit, provide consulting support to the battery execution team as your design is sourced and launched into production. * Continuously benchmark automotive and other industries to identify and implement innovative technologies for Electric Vehicles. * For new concepts and ideas, establish fundamental learnings and develop designs through advanced technology projects (ATW). * Establish relationships with key suppliers and engage on development projects through Statement of Development Work (SODW) agreements. * Engage with GM R&D to provide input to and partner on advanced research projects. * Protect intellectual property (IP) by inventing and supporting inventors on the team to submit Records of Invention (ROI). * Ensure that development process lessons-learned from each program are fed back to improve the standard Proc ess of Engineering for BA phase. * Support the Engineering Technical Leads (ETL) and Technical Specialists (TS) from battery and related domains to improve Best Practices (BP), Subsystem Technical Specifications (SSTS), and Bills of Design/Process/Material (BOD/BOP/BOM), taking ownership where appropriate.
