The GCSOM Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for the planning and implementation of programs and services that strategically engage alumni and provide tangible benefits to alumni and current students while fulfilling the mission of Geisinger Commonwealth and supporting revenue goals.

The Director will develop an alumni society and oversee the societys activities, including the eventual formation of an alumni board of directors.

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Director will work closely with the Geisinger Foundation Senior Director of Annual Giving and Engagement to develop strategies and implement tactics that will lead to philanthropic support from alumni and other key constituencies. The Director will also work closely with the GCSOM Director of Special Events and Special Projects to develop effective event programming, with special focus on reunion activities.

The Director of Alumni Relations is required to conduct business in a professional, mature and cordial manner that will uphold the integrity and reputation of Geisinger Commonwealth. This position maintains a thorough working knowledge of and adherence to the policies, regulations and procedures of Geisinger Commonwealth.


Recruits students and volunteers involved in phonathons and events and provides training

Ensure development activity (visits, phone calls, and events) is recorded in the database

Meet annual performance metrics, including monthly visit, alumni participation and proposal metrics, as determined by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Participate in committee and task force meetings as appropriate

Attend required meetings, conferences and training sessions

Complete expense reports and other required reports

Perform other related duties as required



Identify problems, investigate the root-cause, and make recommendations for solutions.

Ability to prioritize complex tasks with multiple deadlines with good judgment.


Use verbal skills to transfer information to groups

Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills

Must exhibit high levels of energy and enthusiasm to inspire phonathon volunteers

Must have excellent presentation skills


Must have excellent written communication skills

Time management, the ability to prioritize and excellent record-keeping are all required abilities.

Creativity in developing annual core messages and strategies to attract increased participation in annual giving programs.

Access to sensitive materials requires a high degree of discretion, integrity, ethics and confidentiality.

Good sense of humor.

A valid Pennsylvania drivers license is required


Bachelors Degree

Five years functional experience required with an emphasis on development and alumni relations. A track record of successful fundraising is preferred

Experience in educational advancement preferred


Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising, customer relations, basic computer skills, and strong organizational and project management skills


Supervision is typically received from the Vice President for Institutional Advancement
